The No Fish Diet

I gave up eating anything that comes from the sea and oceans sometime ago. Fish and seafood was never my favorite food in the world, but I did enjoy quite a lot of the different types of fish, particular fish caught on the same day. And of course fish/sea food is very very good for you.

We have killed an entire dolphin species

The Yangtze river dolphin of China is thought to be extinct. It is the first whale or dolphin to be made extinct by human activity. An international survey has examined the Yangtze river looking for signs of the dolphin. The last reported sighting is over 5 years ago. An animal can not be officially declared extinct until it has not been seen for at least 50 years, but the Zoological Society of London and the international study believe that the Yangtze river dolphin is most likely extinct.

Are We Being Misled by Food Miles?

The BBC highlighted a very interesting topic today on their breakfast show. That is the issue of "food miles" in the food that we eat. In efforts to reduce our carbon footprint, it is a generally accepted fact that eating food that is produced locally is better for the environment because it does not have the same carbon footprint of imported food. On the face of it, that seems logical. After all, imported food has to be transported to the country of consumption and that transportation produces carbon dioxide.

The China Factor

It has been reported today that China is the worlds leading producer of carbon dioxide, passing the levels of the USA. China is building two new power stations a week and most of these are coal burning. Many people in the West are probably thinking "what is the point in us reducing carbon?".

Well, it might well be true that the human race will not reduce its overall carbon emissions if China and Indian continue to increase their contribution. But is that a reason not to act?

Money for recycling and helping the next generation

After talking to many children and school staff, i found that schools would be a great place to have recyling bins as children can take recycling goods to school and schools can recycle thier waste.
Lots of schools want to recycle but can't as they come under commerical premises.
Why are we not supporting these schools as they will be the next generation.
When i was younger the Scouts and other organisations used to have paper skips that gave them a revenue.
Think how much money schools could generate from tins, paper, cardboard etc

Cycling to work, the eco no brainer

A lot of people hate travelling into work. If you drive, you have got all that traffic to contend with. Then, when you finally get to work, you have to find a park, which can be like trying to find a needle in a haystack. If you go by bus or train, you have to fight your way through hoards of other people. By the time you get to work, you are exhausted and certainly not ready to face the day a head. Then one day you look at a map and realise that your train or bus journey covers twice the distance that it needs to and wonder about the environmental impact of that.

Windsurfing on the Thames

I thought it might be fun to windsurf in central london on the Thames! Go under Towerbridge and so forth.

Is it legal? Well, find out below:

I wasn't sure if windsurfing in central london is actually allowed but couldn't find any information on the web. So, I then tried a host of very friendly windsurfing clubs and eventually got to the right person to ask.

Essentially it is the Harbour Master Upper of the Port of London Authority that has the information. What I found is that windsurfing on the thames in central london is not allowed :-(
