The No Fish Diet
Posted August 13th, 2007 by blairskiI gave up eating anything that comes from the sea and oceans sometime ago. Fish and seafood was never my favorite food in the world, but I did enjoy quite a lot of the different types of fish, particular fish caught on the same day. And of course fish/sea food is very very good for you.
We have killed an entire dolphin species
Posted August 9th, 2007 by blairskiThe Yangtze river dolphin of China is thought to be extinct. It is the first whale or dolphin to be made extinct by human activity. An international survey has examined the Yangtze river looking for signs of the dolphin. The last reported sighting is over 5 years ago. An animal can not be officially declared extinct until it has not been seen for at least 50 years, but the Zoological Society of London and the international study believe that the Yangtze river dolphin is most likely extinct.

Are We Being Misled by Food Miles?
Posted August 1st, 2007 by blairskiThe BBC highlighted a very interesting topic today on their breakfast show. That is the issue of "food miles" in the food that we eat. In efforts to reduce our carbon footprint, it is a generally accepted fact that eating food that is produced locally is better for the environment because it does not have the same carbon footprint of imported food. On the face of it, that seems logical. After all, imported food has to be transported to the country of consumption and that transportation produces carbon dioxide.
Cycling to work, the eco no brainer
Posted May 19th, 2007 by blairskiA lot of people hate travelling into work. If you drive, you have got all that traffic to contend with. Then, when you finally get to work, you have to find a park, which can be like trying to find a needle in a haystack. If you go by bus or train, you have to fight your way through hoards of other people. By the time you get to work, you are exhausted and certainly not ready to face the day a head. Then one day you look at a map and realise that your train or bus journey covers twice the distance that it needs to and wonder about the environmental impact of that.
Switch to Green Energy
Posted April 18th, 2007 by blairskiUnsure of how to help save the planet from global warming? It does seem like a daunting task for all of us. But if we all make small changes in our life, collectively we will make a massive difference.
Fairtrade vs Local
Posted April 18th, 2007 by blairskiWith the growing concerns around global warming, people around the world are focusing their food shopping on buying local products in order to reduce food miles. This seems to be a no brainer. Why buy food that needs to flown from the other side of the world, when you can buy something grown locally?
